Aula del Mar Museum
Stop 3
The Sea Classroom, a museum located next to the port, was created with the aim of highlighting the values of the municipality of Roquetas de Mar to achieve sustainable development. A meeting place where one can discover and experience the connection with the sea in a respectful and interactive way.
In the halls of the Sea Classroom Museum, you will discover an impressive variety of marine species that inhabit the coast of Roquetas, from colorful fish like Sargo to mysterious invertebrates like anemones. The museum pays special attention to Posidonia Oceanica, a marine plant that forms extensive underwater meadows that constitute true underwater forests. The Posidonia Meadow of Roquetas de Mar is a treasure, as it is one of the few Posidonia reefs preserved in the Mediterranean.
The museum also pays well-deserved homage to the town’s deeply rooted fishing tradition, showcasing traditional fishing techniques, the gear used over time, and how this vital activity for the local economy has evolved.
The Sea Classroom is also an active educational center that promotes environmental awareness through lecture programs and activities such as workshops, inviting reflection on the need to protect the marine ecosystem for future generations. A reminder that we are responsible for this valuable natural heritage.
