Strategically located next to Santa Ana Castle, this lighthouse was inaugurated in 1863 with the appearance of a fixed light and a range of 9 miles. Its focal point was situated 17.5 m above sea level, and since then it became an essential reference point.<\/p>\n

Its light guided boats, vessels transporting salt from the ponds of the San Rafael saltworks and the old saltworks of Roquetas de Mar, as well as deeper draft ships or directly other commercial vessels. Its architecture, sober yet robust, integrates perfectly with the landscape. A single-story building with a tower rising towards the sky, topped by a polygonal lantern.<\/p>\n

Throughout its history, the lighthouse witnessed numerous events and the evolution of the municipality. However, with the passage of years and urban growth, the lighthouse’s light began to blend with those of nearby homes and the construction of a new port with modern signaling rendered it obsolete, ceasing its activity in 1945.<\/p>\n

But far from falling into oblivion, this beautiful building, owned by the public company Puertos de Andaluc\u00eda and managed by the Roquetas de Mar City Council, underwent careful rehabilitation to recover its original splendor.<\/p>\n

Today, the Roquetas lighthouse has been converted into a dynamic cultural space. Its rooms constantly host temporary exhibitions, every 15 days, featuring art, photography, local history, and any cultural initiative that wishes to stand out.<\/p>\n

The lighthouse is a fundamental piece of Roquetas de Mar’s cultural triangle, alongside the nearby open-air auditorium and Santa Ana Castle.
